César G. Escobar-Viera, MD, PhD
César joined the Center for LGBT Health Research in 2016. He is currently appointed as a postdoctoral associate at the Center for Research on Media, Technology, and Health. César received his PhD in Health Services Research from the University of Florida. Previously, Dr. Escobar-Viera completed his medical education and clinical training in Psychiatry in his home country of Paraguay, where he also served as CMO of the only public psychiatric hospital during the Psychiatric Reform in the country. His main research interests include leveraging social media and consumer information technology to improve both mental health outcomes and access to mental health services for minority individuals. He is currently working on several projects related to the impact of social media on mental health outcomes, with focus on identifying risk and protective factors for depression among sexual minority individuals and other minority populations.
